1. The Mental Health Social Enterprise called MESOMOCO C.I.C.

MEntal health non-profit SOcial enterprise in MObile phone COmputing,... helping frustratedly unemployed mental distress sufferers restart their careers, and get back into work.

Welcome to the website of MESOMOCO C.I.C.

MESOMOCO C.I.C. is a non-profit social enterprise, a limited liability Community Interest Company, founded and motivated by personal experiences in unemployment, life as a carer, struggles in mental health; and a passion for software engineering, mobile phones, the internet, and computing. (see the FAQ for more detail, and the backstory.) 

We have two missions, we call them:

'Computing via Mobiles'

and ...

'Mental Health - Brightening the Future'.

These missions are tightly bound together and facilitate each other.

We sum them up with the following mission statements, 'Computing via Mobiles' is the focus and direction, essential as a common interest bringing the mental distress sufferers together in team work; and is:

"Developing, marketing and selling software, and other digital content for mobile phones, and the mobile internet, across the world, over-the-air, on-demand,... direct to handsets; content that's compelling; content which is highly valued, and an excellent service or source of information; content that'll get handset users going back for more; content which inspires devotion from customers and partners."

The 'Brightening the Future' mission statement is:

"Creating employment, and, improving the 'quality of life', for people like us, who suffer from, or have suffered mental illness, and are out of work; teaming-up with them, collaborating, and co-operating with them, in a rehabilitation process ... using enterprise as therapy; ...eventually making a living, careers, and a Scarborough success story; inspiring enthusiasm and a thirst for life, via our common purpose, and interest in 'computing via mobiles'."

Eventually, after achieving self-sufficiency and growth, we also see ourselves as, a 'money pump' ... pumping money into British mental health charities, good-causes, projects and initiatives; and general good causes in our local Scarborough community.

We need your help.

As you can see, we aim to do considerable social good. To be successful, and to get the wheels turning we need you!

Please help us, we are passionate about what we believe in, and what we can do; we think we've got some great ideas; we're doing all we can to take our ideas forward; to gather some momentum; and build something truly great.

The thing is, we have very limited resources. If you too, are unemployed, have suffered mental distress, and are in receipt of health related benefits; and have even an embryonic interest in computing ... get in touch with us. We're building a team of people just like you. You could volunteer with us, we aim to take volunteer effort, and eventually, through enterprise, develop it into paid employment.

We really do have limited resources, to start with, we don't have any working capital. (We're calling this 'Ultimate Bootstrapping'.) Our major priority is fundraising; ... and we don't have anywhere to meet, or anywhere central in Scarborough to work - we could do with a real office, ... we could also do with some basic office facilities and equipment ... if you feel you'd like to sponsor us, or help us, in anyway, ... money, space, training, equipment, knowledge, professional services ... your time as an expert, or mentor, I.T. skills, anything ... please, please, please, get in touch with us. Anything and everything will be much appreciated.

     One of our mental health social enterprise's two missions: 'Computing via Mobiles'

    There are billions of this type of mobile phone out there ... in the world. All programmable and capable of running software. They can add value to our lives by providing all kinds of services, and information; in all sorts of clever ways. They're versatile, they're everywhere. They're in peoples pockets and bags ... all can be connected to the internet, ...they should be considered truly personal computers.

     For many people with mental health problems drugs like venlafaxine, citalopram, lithium, seroquel, or zyprexa, are an essential ingredient in maintaining their quality of life. But, even with all this medication, many are are still living disadvantaged lives, on the edge of society, and so, therefore, the quality of life is not that great; That's why the tablets are only a part of the solution. Psychological factors, social factors, and economic factors are all as important as the medication, or brain chemistry factors in mental health. We want to improve the quality of life, and because all these other factors (psychological, social and economic) can be engaged in building and running an enterprise ... we thought we'd try and use enterprise as a therapy.

     Our important local community: Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England.

    We want to create skilled high-tech jobs for ourselves, and others like us in our community.

    We're going to team-up, collaborate and co-operate in a Social Enterprise.

    So, the other of our two missions is 'Brightening the Future'. We want to improve the lives of people, making them smile and be happy. It's all about mental health.
