2. Our Purpose

Our objective is to get ourselves back into work, making a contributing, via enterprise, following a period of unemployment due to mental health problems.

Our immediate aim is to build a non-profit benevolent organisation, that is, one that does good in our community; and helps others, like us, who have suffered mental distress.

We want to create an organisation that makes full use of, the full range of, our life experiences, ...expertise, skills, knowledge, and passion.

Our values and beliefs, tell us that the organisation should ... aim be self-sufficient, self-sustaining and independent . We don't want to rely on donations. Instead, we aim to be enterprising. So, we're not a charity, we're a non-profit social enterprise . (Initially, we do need financial help and support, just for now, to get us up and running, ...then we promise to sustain ourselves ... so please, for now, donate whatever you can ... time, money, space, equipment, services, advice, expertise ... thank you!)

We are heavily into the idea of using enterprise to do social good.

Our beliefs, also tell us, that we should collaborate and co-operate, with like minded people who live in similar circumstances; who have the same needs and wants. We should team-up with others like us, and work together towards a common purpose. So..., we're a little like a workers co-operative...

We'll also forge links with, and between, local health care and employment agencies. (e.g. the local NHS Trusts and Jobcentre Plus)

In our non-profit social enterprise we have two equally important missions. A 'social good' mission, and an enterprise mission.

The enterprise mission facilitates and sustains the 'social good' mission . Infact, the two missions support each other; and together, they enable, facilitate and sustain our organisations overall purpose.

Our enterprise, or business mission is 'Computing via Mobiles'. That is, developing, marketing and selling software and other digital content for mobile phones and the mobile internet, over-the-air,  on-demand,  direct to customers handsets, worldwide; aiming at mass appeal markets, niche enthusiasts, and business users ... across continents, cultures and languages; and satisfying the needs of end-users, customers, partners, sponsors, network operators, and handset manufacturers. We aim to provide compelling content; we'll get people emotionally attached to their mobiles; if you think people seem obsessed with their mobiles right now, ... wait 'till they've experienced what we have to offer. They'll see their mobile phone in a whole new light. It's no longer just a phone, ... it's the future of personal computing ... it's the information and functionality you want, where you need it, when you need it; ... liberating.

Our 'social good' or community mission is 'Brightening the Future'. That is, getting people back into work after potentially long-term unemployment; and following rehabilitation (or as part of rehabilitation) from mental health problems, such as depression or more severe mental illness; and/or what is commonly called 'nervous breakdown'.

The enterprise will give intelligent, otherwise capable, local people, who suffer, or have suffered from mental distress, ...whose potential is not being realised ...and is being wasted, ...and who genuinely feel they are ready, ...a chance. 

A chance to work together, focused on a common purpose, with like minded people, who have similiar needs, in a culture of mutual support and understanding. A chance to make a meaningful contribution; a chance to improve their lives, and become independent from state benefits. The enterprise will give the space, time and understanding required. The enterprise will give people opportunities.The opportunity to sustainably rehabilitate and stay well; the opportunity of personal development; the opportunity to make a living; the opportunity to do something meaningful and rewarding; and the opportunity to learn new skills, ...high-tech specialist skills. It will help people to develop self-confidence, and self-esteem, it will help people to value themselves more.

We aim to create skilled high-tech jobs for people from our neighbourhood and the rest of Scarborough.   We'll specialise in getting people who have suffered mental distress back into work (within our 'workers co-operative' like non-profit social enterprise) following potentially long-term unemployment.
